Music reflects the human spirit—it is a core element of our lives, a constant source of inspiration for most and the lifeblood of one Magic Brook, musical journeyman, roving guitarist and occasional activist. The Bay Area musician defies labels and genres with his soulful acoustic guitar work and unique blend of sounds. Brook’s fluid two-hand guitar technique, percussive use of the instrument and blending of styles enables him to create his own intriguing brand of powerful acoustic music, merging rhythm and melody to create truly magical sounds on the acoustic guitar.

Music Biography continues...

magic brook's story behind "The Source"

While traveling the well worn path of “utility” guitar player, magic brook began to pursue a personal musical vision: "2 hands, one guitar"

Working on his first solo release, "The Great Blues Sea", Brook started re-exploring alternate fingerstyle  techniques and tunings on acoustic guitar.

"I’m fascinated by the sounds that steel and wood combined with two hands, one soul, can express. “The Source” is pure; just one guitar played by one person - what are the possibilities in that?" - magic brook

"The Source" is the result of 6 years of exploration, wood-shedding, composition, performances, blind-alleys and dead-ends. The music was conceived in Berkeley, fledged in Boulder, took flight in Zihautanejo, and was made whole in British Columbia and Berlin. The wood shed remains in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In addition to the creation of the music, two years of engineering experiments were expended to achieve a deep, rich and vibrant recording that captures the complexity and spirit of the acoustic guitar. The recording has no overdubbed tracks. It was recorded “2 hands, 1 guitar”, direct to digital.

Brook is committed to community. He will gladly donate performances for causes that he considers worthy.
